Countryside Stewardship Scheme
In 2001 the holding was accepted into the Countryside Stewardship Scheme. The farm lies in four blocks, each of which lies against a Special Wildlife Site (SWS).
The management objectives of the scheme include;
- Restoring and re-instating traditional orchards as an important, historical, landscape feature of the county.
- Establishing rotational management of all hedgerows to create valuable habitat and corridors for birds, bats, and small mammals by providing food and cover.
- To create six metre grass and wildflower margins alongside arable fields to provide a source of nectar for invertebrates and a tussocky habitat for small mammals.
- To sympathetically manage the permanent pasture by extensive levels of grazing to help maintain and increase species diversity.
- To provide an area of open access linked by a linear path within waterside pasture, orchard and woodland habitats for public enjoyment.
- To permit and encourage school visits for educational study.
